World No 8 Nick Kyrgios was devastated in defeat to Karen Khachanov in the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open.

Kyrgios suffered a broken left wrist after receiving a brutal, right-handed body blow from the world No 5.

Afterwards, the 28-year-old revealed his hand to medical staff, who immediately rushed him to hospital to have X-rays and other tests.

Kyrgios had a meeting with his family immediately after the match, while Khachanov has had a meeting with his coaches before travelling to Shanghai.

He is now unsure whether his wrist will be able to recover properly in time for the Asian Open (September 10 – 18), which will feature a two day mini-tournament at the Wuhan Open (September 3-7).

“I’m devastated,” Kyrgios said.

“I had to take a few more offhand chances than I wanted to but it’s a tough one, so I’m very grateful.”

Kyrgios was seen on the floor after the incident, clutching his wrist as he lay motionless.

Kyrgios made headlines last month after he revealed his love for his ‘Rough Rider’ tattoo and revealed he is an alcoholic.

He said he did not want to show his alcohol or drug consumption but revealed he had been consuming cannabis on a regular basis and that his addiction was more of a phase.

“I had a good period but I decided to stop,” he said.

“I still want to compete but I want to be happy. I want to be healthy and healthy activities.

“I’m not an alcoholic. I have a couple of beers, my dad has one on a Friday night.

“It’s something that I need to
