Scotland Yard say man, 45, was arrested in Westminster area at around 12.30pm and is being questioned
A man was arrested on suspicion of “acting in a threatening or abusive manner” on Wednesday afternoon after being discovered acting suspiciously in the parliament complex, Scotland Yard said.
Scotland Yard said the 45-year-old man was arrested in Westminster area at around 12.30pm and was being questioned.
The police have declined to confirm reports that police had found a gas canister in the suspect’s bag but said they were investigating whether it was explosive.
A spokeswoman said: “Shortly before 12.30pm on Wednesday 28 February police received reports of a man acting suspiciously in Westminster. Officers attended and a 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being disorderly or obstructing a police officer, or acting in a threatening or abusive manner.
“He is currently in custody at a south London police station. The investigation is ongoing.”
