F1 news is hotter than a Ferrari with the men’s championship just under a month away. With just four races to go the race to be crowned champion in 2018 is over for a handful of drivers with Lewis Hamilton winning the 2017 title thanks to a tie on points at the last event in Abu Dhabi.
It will be some story for Hamilton to lose the crown to Mercedes teammate and rival Nico Rosberg who quit F1 after winning the title last year.
It wasn’t without controversy with Alonso and Hamilton making headlines over a dressing down which the Spaniard delivered for being late on the grid.
In a press conference at the end of the season Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff was asked about Rosberg’s shock retirement.
“Yes but at the same time we are champions as well, they have a different boss,” Wolff answered.
Wolff was asked if he was surprised by Rosberg’s decision to retire from Formula One after three victories in the last season.
“Oh yes, of course. It is a decision he took together with Nico and also his family and the press conference… and he got all the wrong answers that he expected, but he would say the same. He was really shocked, surprised and disappointed that we didn’t respond better, or with a lot of respect to his exit.
“I think everyone expects him to have a super season in 2018, we believe there will be the same humility as last year as well. Hopefully he will be even better than 2017.”
